NEW JOBS: Tyson Scheidecker has joined the engineering team at Shive-Hattery in West Des Moines. Scheidecker recently graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
NEW NAME: Brian Clark and Associates has changed its name to Confluence. The firm practices landscape architecture, land planning and urban design.
AWARDS: Kevin McDonald, director of special events at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, Meagan Oppold of McKinney Law Firm, and Don DeWaay, owner and president of DeWaay Capital Management, have been named the Iowa Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 2008 Central Iowa man, woman and celebrity of the year.
McDonald, Oppold and DeWaay won the titles based on their ability to raise money in a 10-week period: McDonald, $35,000; Oppold, $42,000; and DeWaay, $75,000. The runner-ups were: Jay Ryan, Masterpiece Builders; Lori Nordstrom, Lori Nordstrom Studios; and Amanda Brink-Hull, KCCI-TV. Chris Mann, welding instructor at ALMACO in Nevada, recently received an award from the American Welding Society. Mann was named educator of the year in the private sector for the Central Iowa section and for the district that includes several states.
